Scholarship Application Procedure
Wilmington Youth Lacrosse Association (WYLA) will be offering scholarships for two graduating High School Seniors who are planning to continue their education at an accredited College or University in the Fall of 2019. One Boy’s and one Girl’s scholarship of $1000 each will be awarded.
The attached application should be completed, including attachments, and returned to WYLA by the application deadline. All applications must be returned by WYLA PO Box by Friday, May 20th 2019
Awards will be made on the basis of merit, community service, school, and/or academic performance.
Applicants who do not meet the eligibility requirements, late, or incomplete applications will be rejected.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be:
- A high school graduate of the Class of 2019!
- Accepted to an accredited two or four-year College or University
- Have played at least one season in the Wilmington Youth Lacrosse Association’s youth program (in good standing) as well as given back to the program and the community during the high school years.
- A resident of Wilmington
Application Procedure
Complete the attached scholarship application. Please type or print in ink all requested information. Securely attach the following to the application:
Required:
- A copy of the applicant’s official High School transcript
- A copy of your College acceptance letter
- An essay to the WYLA Scholarship Committee describing:
- any extracurricular and or community service, including major accomplishments and/or leadership positions
- the reasons why you feel you are qualified for the scholarship, including specific references to your educational and personal goals
- How both sportsmanship and lacrosse (with some emphasis on your experience in the Wilmington Youth Lacrosse program) has played an important part in your life and what you have learned by being a part of the WYLA organization. The committee will want to specifically see continued involvement with WYLA and other community organizations.
- Two (2) letters of recommendation from a non-family member

Winner Selection
A scholarship committee, chaired by a non-voting Board Member, as voted by the Board, consisting of a minimum of 3 people, will review and rank each application using the Scholarship Application Evaluation sheet.
- The Winners will be awarded in the order of the highest cumulative ranking. Awards will be presented by the Board.
- Presentation of awards will be conducted during a WYLA event such as the year end cook out or another event as deemed appropriate by the Board.
All decisions of the WYLA Scholarship Selection Committee are final

The attached application should be completed, including attachments, and returned to WYLA by the application deadline. All applications must be received by WYLA PO Box 172, Wilmington, MA by Friday, May 24th 2019
Awards will be made on the basis of merit, community service, and “give back” to the youth program.
Applicants who do not meet the eligibility requirements, late, or incomplete applications will be rejected.

- How did your involvement in WYLA, as a player, play an important part of your high school career? Emphasize volunteerism, community involvement, and sportsmanship while also including any accomplishments and/or leadership positions.
- Explain why you feel you are best qualified for this scholarship, noting your educational and personal goals.
- One (1) letter of recommendation from a non family member
